Good evening,

I asked about BECO’s Saudi affiliation on my last Substack, to which I was quickly messaged by a paid subscriber telling me that Rakan Alrashed, BECO’s Saudi Partner, wants to invite me to their new Riyadh office event tonight. I was under the impression that BECO is some British Dubai-based VC slop, but no. Fun fact Rakan and I used to be Mohammadiya neighbors. We never actually met, but he represents the Saudi social dynamic of knowing someone well but also not knowing them at all. Many such cases, and I think it’s a unique thing about our culture. The north of Riyadh is very, very small.

And now that I think about it, a fund like BECO would greatly benefit from someone like Rakan, or any Rashed for that matter. I’ve never met a Rashed that wasn’t electric. They’re social geniuses, and truly some of the coolest people I know. Everyone needs a Rashed in their life, including VCs.

Today’s Letter includes: Meta’s weird layoffs, Riyadh Air, BCG, Nike AI slop, Red Sea’s Four Seasons, Drake, Everlane, Saudi Billionaires, and more.
