Last week I attended a crypto thing at 50 Hudson Yards, AKA the BlackRock Building, and on my way out a Saudi guy approached me and mentioned that he follows my TikTok. He looked professional, and so of course it turned out he works at BlackRock and went to Columbia. I can’t believe people who work at BlackRock watch my TikToks. Guess I’m doing something right.
When he told me his name, I recognized it from my list of paid subscribers (which just hit 100 btw, thank you!) and so I naturally offered him my contact and let him know to message me if he ever needed anything in the city. I left and took the C across town to meet a friend at Balthazar, where I not-so-awkwardly ran into Saudi BlackRock Guy again.
The following day I met with Alaa Balkhy for coffee at a place called WSA located in Seaport, a members-only club and office space. It was my first time actually having a conversation with Alaa even though we both felt like we’ve known each other our entire online lives (we do not follow each other and never have.)
