I may be a lot of things, but I’m not a lazy person. Laziness in my 20s was the reason for my depression. People around me confused laziness for luxury. If you have a maid that fetches you water while you sit around watching TV, you’re actually killing yourself very, very slowly.

I love having the ability to walk instead of drive. To fix a broken table instead of calling the Sudani driver to do it. To chase my money instead of waiting for it at a desk for 8 hours a day.

A common misconception we have is that it's a net negative to hustle your way through your day. The وشوله culture is the biggest culprit when it comes to why we’re all so fucking sad.

What follows is a list of actions relatable to a lot Saudis that I’ve used to get out of my rut, with the core principle of being less lazy:

Make your bed
